Newborn intensive care unit in Orange Park
Orange Park Medical Center is home to a neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) where newborns in need of extra attention following birth receive additional medical support. Our special care nursery, also called a Level II NICU, treats our smallest patients to help them grow and prosper before their parents take them home. We deliver thousands of babies every year and treat about 500 newborns annually in our NICU.
If you would like to speak with someone in our NICU, call us at (904) 639-8538.
COVID-19 and Pregnancy - An Update for our Patients
We would like to take this opportunity to update you about your maternity care during the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, and assure you that our dedicated team of expert nurses, physicians and midwives are committed to providing safe and effective care to every patient who walks through our doors.
Newborn intensive care services
Our NICU is staffed by board-certified neonatologists and advanced neonatal nurse practitioners. With access to our neonatal specialists, your baby can receive the dedicated level of medical attention they need while you continue to recover after labor and delivery—all in one location.
Our NICU includes all the equipment needed to support your baby, including state-of-the-art ventilators and incubators. If a newborn does not have access to their mother's breast milk, we make sure babies in our NICU benefit from donor breast milk. Breast milk offers a wide range of benefits for all babies but is especially useful when treating high-risk newborns.
We care for infants experiencing conditions such as:
- Respiratory distress syndrome
If your child requires follow-up pediatric care, our hospital also has a dedicated pediatric intensive care unit (PICU) and pediatric inpatient unit.
Visiting the NICU
We understand how important it is for parents to remain close to their newborns. Our on-site NICU helps families stay together during neonatal treatment, allowing parents to visit and get to know their new baby. We practice open visitation hours during all times except during nursing shift changes, which occur from 6:00am to 8:00am and 6:00pm to 8:00pm.
Due to COVID-19, we have adjusted our visiting policy. At this time, parents are the only visitors allowed in the NICU. We ask that parents schedule their visits in advance, as we are only allowing a limited number of visitors in the unit at one time.
NICU live streaming
We know that it is not always possible for you to remain by your newborn's side throughout their hospital stay. To help give you and your family peace of mind, our NICU is now equipped with bedside cameras that share a live stream of your baby while in the NICU. Parents will have access to a secure, private system that can be viewed on any smartphone, tablet or computer.
