Welcome from our Program Director

Afab Ahmad, MD, MBA, CPE

Thank you for your interest in the Mercer University School of Medicine/Orange Park Medical Center (OPMC) Internal Medicine Residency Program!

Our internal medicine categorical residency program is an ACGME accredited, three-year training with 39 positions. We strive to help our residents reach their maximum potential and achieve their long-term goals including passing their ABIM Board Exams, entering into independent practice or joining their desired fellowships in our own institution or other prestigious universities.

OPMC provides our residents with a state of the art 317- bed community teaching hospital with multidisciplinary services including a Level II Trauma Center, labor and delivery, psychiatry, rehabilitation, adult and neonatal intensive care units.

Our continuity clinic is adjacent to the hospital at Palms Medical Group and is a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC). This not-for-profit organization enhances our community healthcare by providing affordable primary care and preventative services while enhancing resident education and exposure to a broad spectrum of patients.

Throughout clinical rotations, our residents are instructed on fundamental clinical skills and learn diagnosis and management techniques for addressing a broad range of clinical problems. They are able to provide direct patient care under the supervision of highly qualified and dedicated faculty.

We consider all candidates who apply to our program through the ERAS application service.

Our Internal Medicine Residency Program also serves as the base program for our Transitional Year Residency Program, Cardiovascular Disease Fellowship and Hematology/Oncology Fellowship programs at OPMC.

Our growing Graduate Medical Education department provides our residents the opportunity to work with residents from other ACGME accredited programs at OPMC, and our dynamic and highly motivated faculty takes pride in mentoring young graduates like yourself to become excellent physicians.

On behalf of everyone here at OPMC Internal Medicine Residency Program, we wish you all the best in finding the program of your dreams.
