Orange Park Medical Center - October 22, 2018
by Sarah Miller, Injury Prevention Coordinator, Trauma Services

Today kicks off National Teen Driver Safety Week. Motor vehicle crashes are the leading cause of death among teens 15 to 18 years old in the United States. This week is focused on educating teens and parents about the importance of following the rules of the road to stay safe while driving. Some may seem obvious, but other rules are not as mainstream in the media. Take time to talk to the teens in your life about the following topics to keep them safe when they are behind the wheel.

  • Alcohol
  • Drugs
  • Speeding
  • Inconsistent or no seat belt use
  • Distracted and drowsy driving
  • Number of passengers

Hear from Kaylyn, a teen whose life changed forever after choosing to not wear a seat belt in the car.
