Orange Park, FL – Orange Park Medical Center’s new dedicated Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) is now open, providing additional in-hospital care to the community’s smallest residents. This new unit comes on the heels of the opening of the Pediatric Inpatient unit, Pediatric ER waiting room and 10 Pediatric ER treatment rooms in 2014.
Located on the hospital’s second floor, the PICU includes four private ICU beds for severely sick and injured children ages newborn to 17. The Pediatric Inpatient unit is on the same floor with eight private pediatric inpatient beds. Both the inpatient unit and PICU are staffed 24 hours a day with specially trained Pediatric Nurses and Pediatric Intensivists. Highly skilled Pediatric Emergency Physicians and Nurses are available on-site twenty four hours a day in the Pediatric ER.
“Our mission is to provide you and your child with high quality, family centered care,” said Kathy Hester, Chief Nursing Officer. “Our PICU and Pediatric teams are here to provide state-of-the-art medical and nursing care so children can heal close to home.”
The footprint of Orange Park Medical Center’s children’s services will expand further in August 2015 with the opening of the free standing Park West ER in West Jacksonville. The 24/7 Park West ER will have a dedicated pediatric waiting room, pediatric treatment rooms and pediatric imaging/radiology services to complement the range of emergency care services provided for adults.
