Orange Park, Florida - This week Orange Park Medical Center opened its first phase of their new $62 million 101,435 square foot tower. The newly opened 5,800 square foot space includes the hospital’s outpatient testing and imaging services, patient registration and 2,200 square foot of shell space for future growth.
The space opens one week after Governor DeSantis lifted the executive order to discontinue elective procedures in the state of Florida and in-step with the hospital opening up their visitation policy to allow one visitor per patient.
“Few settings outside of someone’s home have as many protections in place to prevent to the exposure of COVID-19 as our hospital,” says Dr. Kasia Walosik, Anesthesiologist and Chief of Staff at Orange Park Medical Center. The hospital says they are following a Universal Protection Plan to keep their colleagues, physicians, patients and visitors safe.
The plan includes universal masking for everyone entering the building, symptom and temperature screenings at all entrances, social distancing requirements and placing COVID-19 patients and those with COVID-19 symptoms in a dedicated area of the hospital.
Dr. Walosik says, if you’re coming into the hospital for an outpatient service and you are experiencing symptoms such as fever, cough, or difficulty breathing, please let your physician know immediately. Your physician may recommend a COVID-19 test prior to your procedure.
The new patient tower will house 48 private patient rooms for medical and surgical patients, bringing Orange Park Medical Center’s total number of licensed beds to 365. The additional four stories will include two floors of patient rooms and two floors built as a shell space, designated for future expansion. The remainder of the tower will be opening in late 2020.
Patients coming to the hospital to register or for outpatient imaging or testing services will now enter through the hospital’s main entrance.
