Orange Park, FL – Orange Park Medical Center is pleased to announce they have received accreditation for two Graduate Medical Education programs – one in Internal Medicine and the second in Family Medicine. The Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education (ACGME) Residency Review Committee awarded the accreditation for Internal Medicine in September and Family Medicine in October. Residents will begin the three year programs in July 2015.

“Becoming a teaching hospital is another big step for Orange Park Medical Center as we continue to strive to be a world class tertiary facility. The new residency program supports our commitment to our community through our delivery of top quality healthcare”, said Chad Patrick, CEO of Orange Park Medical Center.

“We are excited to become a community based academic medical center dedicated to providing highly qualified primary care physicians in ACGME residencies in internal medicine and family medicine,” said Stephen Salerno, MD, Chief of Graduate Medical Education at Orange Park Medical Center. “We are dedicated to providing our residents with comprehensive didactic instruction with active learning techniques, a rich selection of specialty experiences and pragmatic business skills needed to thrive in a complex care environment. Our learners will receive training at the bedside from some of the most experienced specialists in the Greater Jacksonville area.”

The Internal Medicine Residency program will have a total of 30 (10 per year) accredited residents by year 2017. This Internal Medicine program will use a 4 + 1 block schedule modeled after Tulane University, allowing for dedicated time towards clinic and rotations. The Family Medicine Residency program will have a total of 18 (6 per year) accredited residents by year 2017. The Family Medicine program will have rotations covering comprehensive care for the entire family with emphasis on outpatient components.

Orange Park Medical Center is the only teaching hospital in Clay County. As part of their lobby expansion in early 2014, dedicated classroom space has been added for the GME programs. For more information, contact the GME office at (904) 639-2000 or visit
