Orange Park, FL - Orange Park Medical Center announced today the start of their Colorectal Cancer Screening Event. The 2 week event provides an opportunity for area residents over 50 years old to pick up a free colorectal cancer screening kit from a convenient location and return it to Orange Park Medical Center's laboratory.
"The death rate for colorectal cancer has dropped by 51% from 1976 to 2014. This decline in cancer mortality over the past 2 decades is the result of advances in early detection with screening and treatments offered. Screenings not only decreases the mortality, but also decreases the incidence of the cancer," said Dr Hema Vankayla an Oncologist at Orange Park Medical Center.
The kit contains detailed instructions for completing the test at home. Participants must complete an authorization form, a self-addressed envelope, and return the completed test to the Orange Park Medical Center lab for analysis. Orange Park Medical Center will conduct the laboratory testing at no cost to participants and provide the postage to mail results.
