Orange Park, FL — HCA Healthcare’s Orange Park Medical Center is celebrating its first Cardiology Fellowship trained graduates. Dr. Areen Al-Taie and Waqas Siddiqui began their fellowship program at the hospital in 2018 and have since paved the way for six additional fellows over the past three years.
Dr. Al-Taie and Dr. Siddiqui spent three years at Orange Park Medical Center participating in rotations with board-certified cardiologists. Their training covered nuclear medicine, cardiac catheterization, critical care, electrophysiology, echocardiology, and additional areas of cardiac care.
“We’re excited to be one of only seven HCA Cardiology Fellowship programs in the state of Florida,” said Cardiologist and Orange Park Medical Center’s Cardiology Fellowship Program Director, Dr. Andrea DeNeen. HCA Healthcare, the leader in graduate medical education in the country, has 11 cardiology fellowship programs throughout the country.
Dr. Waqas Siddiqui will be continuing his training at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia for Interventional Cardiology. In addition to his fellowship at Orange Park Medical Center, Dr. Siddiqui has also completed a fellowship for Nephrology at Drexel University and Internal Medicine residency at Seton Hall. Throughout his training, he has participated in the care of over 5,000 patients, including over 600 catheterization procedures.
Dr. Areen Al-Taie will be continuing his training at Massachusetts University-Baystate for an interventional cardiology fellowship program. Before his cardiology fellowship at Orange Park Medical Center, Dr. Al-Taie completed the internal medicine residency program at the hospital. Throughout his training, he has participated in the care of over 5,000 patients.
“These two fellows have had the opportunity to undergo training at a high-volume, high-acuity hospital that offers comprehensive cardiovascular and advanced cardiovascular services,” said Dr. DeNeen. “I’ve really enjoyed watching them learn and grow over the past few years and I know they will go on to be great cardiologists.”
HCA Healthcare has over 270 residency and fellowship programs at 58 teaching hospitals throughout the country. Orange Park Medical Center’s graduate medical education program includes 10 of those programs including include Family Medicine, Internal Medicine, Psychiatry, Dermatology, General Surgery and Emergency Medicine, Cardiology Hospice and Palliative Medicine and Hematology/Oncology and transitional year, a program that focuses on subspecialties.
Orange Park Medical Center recently expanded with two electrophysiology labs used to treat patients for irregular heart rhythm conditions such as atrial fibrillation. The expansion also included 14 recovery rooms for cardiac patients.
