Robotic Surgery Services Expand at Orange Park Medical Center

April 17, 2012

Orange Park, FL – Orange Park Medical Center announced a second da Vinci Si Surgical System has been added to their existing state-of-the-art robotic system. Orange Park Medical Center continues to advance their technology and with the additional resource, more patients will have the opportunity to experience the benefits of minimally invasive surgery. Patients experience less pain, less blood loss and less need for blood transfusions. Moreover, the da Vinci Si System can enable a shorter hospital stay, a quicker recovery and faster return to normal daily activities.

In 2011, Orange Park Medical Center surgeons performed 368 cases using the da Vinci Si Surgical System, with the largest number of cases being hysterectomies. Orange Park Medical Center had the highest number of robotic hysterectomy procedures of any hospital in Northeast Florida. With the additional $1.9 million system, 2012 case numbers have the potential to more than double.

Orange Park Medical Center surgeons currently use the da Vinci Si Surgical System for a number of procedures including thoracic surgery, cardiac procedures, urological surgery and gynecologic surgeries including hysterectomy, myomectomy and sacrocolpopexy. The Orange Park Medical Center surgical team was the first in North Florida and South Georgia to perform a minimally invasive lung lobectomy with robotic assistance.

“We are delighted to expand our surgical resources for Clay County residents and our surrounding communities,” said Thomas Pentz, CEO at Orange Park Medical Center. “The additional system will allow us to continue to be a leader in robotic-assisted surgery.”
