Minimally Invasive Aortic Valve Replacement Offered at OPMC

Orange Park Medical Center (OPMC) continues to expand its heart surgery program. Cardiothoracic surgeon, Nathan Bates, M.D., is now performing minimally invasive aortic valve replacements at the hospital. An 88 year old man suffering from aortic stenosis was the first to undergo this procedure at the hospital.

Orange Park Medical Center (OPMC) has opened a $1 million, bronchoscopy suite. Equipped with the latest technology, it is the only dedicated bronchoscopy suite in Northeast Fla. Hospitals typically perform bronchoscopic procedures in rooms designed for other purposes as well.

Trauma Surgeon Bruce Walsh, M.D., Appointed Trauma Medical Director

Bruce Walsh, M.D., F.A.C.S., has been appointed Trauma Medical Director for Orange Park Medical Center (OPMC). “The appointment of Dr. Walsh represents the first major step in building our trauma program and trauma surgical staff,” says John Lunde, Administrative Director of Trauma Services at OPMC.

Emergency Department Groundbreaking on Expansion & Renovation

The expansion and renovation of the Emergency Department will happen over phases, and is projected for completion in July 2012. During the first phase of construction there will be a temporary Emergency Department entrance, and signage will direct patients able to walk in to the Emergency Room to check in at the hospital’s Express Care.

North Florida’s First Robot-Assisted Lung Lobectomy Performed at Orange Park Medical Center

Yesterday a surgical team at Orange Park Medical Center, led by cardiothoracic surgeon Nathan Bates, M.D., became the first in North Florida and South Georgia to perform a procedure called a lung lobectomy with robotic assistance. A lobectomy is a surgical procedure done to remove part of a patient’s lung because of lung cancer.

Staff volunteers from Orange Park Medical Center will be providing first responder medical services for ABC’s “Extreme Makeover: Home Edition” when the popular TV show comes to Clay County. Nearly 50 nurses, technicians, paramedics and other clinicians will be on location 24/7 during the week-long project to build a home for one deserving Clay County family.
