OPMC Joins Exclusive Spirit of Women Network

April 06, 2010

Orange Park Medical Center announced today that it has joined Spirit of Women, an integrated partnership of hospitals and healthcare systems across the country that aims to drive health action for women and their families.  Spirit of Women enables Orange Park Medical Center (OPMC) to continue to focus on the specific needs of the local community while drawing on the strength and support of a national network.

As a Spirit of Women hospital, OPMC has committed itself a comprehensive list of National Standards for Excellence in Women’s Health.  Because women make up to 85 percent of household healthcare decisions, the educational and motivational Spirit of Women efforts are expected to positively impact the well-being of the entire family and community as a whole.

“Spirit of Women gives us the ability to provide up to the minute health education to our community of women and their families.  The materials are easy to understand and they contain information necessary to make lifestyle changes to improve the health and well being of the entire family.  We also liked the entertainment aspect of this program.  The health education events we’ll host have an element of fun that reinforces the serious medical information being discussed.  We are proud to be part of this exclusive network and all that it brings to our community,” states Thomas Pentz, CEO Orange Park Medical Center.

Diana Jordan, one of Oprah’s “funniest people” will present the “Healing Power of Laughter” at the free kick-off celebration Thursday, April 29th from 7-8pm at the JC Penney Court at the Orange Park Mall.  Visit www.orangeparkmedicalcenter.com for more information.

Through Spirit of Women, OPMC plans to conduct a wide variety of events including educational and recreational activities, health screenings, workshops, and support groups that will reach women in all stages of their lives.

Orange Park Medical Center (OPMC) is dedicated to shaping the future of healthcare in the community we serve. OPMC is committed to continually enhancing the standard of healthcare and wellness through safe, accessible, consistent and compassionate care. The medical center has been serving residents of Clay, Duval, St. Johns, Baker, and Bradford counties since it opened in 1974. The Spirit of Women Hospital Network is a national coalition that inspires health and wellness on a local level by leveraging national resources.

Hospitals and healthcare facilities in more than 80 U.S. communities create the core through which Spirit of Women reaches women and seeks to inspire access and action for better national health.  Utilizing a variety of means, including educational events, national awards and promotion of research, Spirit of Women addresses health topics such as menopause, cancer, diabetes, cardiovascular disease, healthy pregnancy and many others.  Visit www.spiritofwomen.com for more information.
